    Yes the Inquisition didn't result in nearly as many executions as claimed these days. Many prisoners were simply released because the guards were bored.

    Most sentenced to death weren't actually killed, they were allowed to flee, and just hung in effigy. The Church Inquisition executed no one. Many don't know there were three Inquisitions, not one, and of the three the Portuguese one was actually the worst one. Contrary to many claims, Jews weren't the main targets, either, and in any case most of those convicted of fake conversions were probably guilty; there were hundreds of thousands of Muslims and Jews involved, and it's hard to believe at least a few weren't faking it.
