Why not set up an advisory board instead where a few of the chosen members with long standing reputation can convene out of sight of the public where they discuss any forum concerns or to make a change that deserve to be considered by the Admin and Mod team.

There is one, but what might be missed by not receiving input from ALL members?

I think it is a good idea for the forum's membership to express their ideas regarding the format, content, intent and management of the forum. If everyone approaches it like adults and offers constructive suggestions and criticisms, I think it could be a good thing to do periodically.

The idea has been presented in the Mod forum and discussions are underway. IF this is given the green light to go ahead, it is important that it be a discussion and not a slugfest. If it turns into one. it will be shut down and that would be unfortunate because I am sure there are matters and suggestions that should be discussed.

What I remember throwing townhalls of course was it getting personal. No personal beef with a mod or member should be allowed, that includes nameless innuendo that there is a mod/member who blah blah blah.

Help me out here, Chris. If someone has a problem with a particular Moderator, or another member is regularly engaging in disruptive behavior, and somebody wants to bring it up in a Town Hall setting, you don't think they should be allowed to do so even if they do it without naming names? How exactly does one write about a problem that's occurring on the forum without acknowledging the fact that it's someone who is a member of the forum that is responsible? Are outsiders hacking into the forum and causing problems?

Right, you got it. If you have a beef with a member report it, with a mod, PM another mod. That should be clear from even a cursory reading of the rules. It's not what townhalls are for. It's what always wrecks them.


Some of you might remember the VIPs who as a group were advisors responsible for deciding the structure of the forum and even for making the rules here. It too was wrecked by a few who used it for personal beefs. Admin had to dismantle it.

Exactly. Town hall meetings were mostly less mature posters aligning by their political side of the aisle to throw mud. I liked the idea in theory, but it wasn’t productive.
