If the "effort to destroy Trump" is being conducted lawfully, and is furthermore being done in the interests of justice, then interference with that aim is at best unethical and uncalled for, and potentially even a matter of collusion.

I believe Trump's anger and disappointment over the 2020 stolen election vote spilled over onto the runoff election and Trump's comments may be blamed for Republicans losing the senatorial runoffs.
So I don't think Kemp and the Republicans party in Georgia wants to save Trump, so they were not going to support someone trying to help Trump. So the truth may be somewhere in the middle in this case.
