    It always concerned me that the area is so flat and level, not like a natural park.

    I'd go crazy in the concrete canyons of the big city.I'd have to have a patch of woods for an escape. I hear the apartments facing the park go for big bucks. 1 Bed,1 bath condo goes for $15000 a month on 5th Av.

    I have a copy of his travel diary on his trip through the South to Texas in the 1850's. He was a noted abolitionist, but he also pointed out how badly Irish and German laborers were treated in the South, particularly those working on the levees and riverboats around New Orleans, which explained a lot about why the South attracted so few white immigrants and ultimately lost the Civil War.
