Amazon has announced another massive investment in the state of Ohio...

The company said on Tuesday it is planning to build three new solar
farms as part of new renewable energy projects. These farms will be built in Crawford, Champaign, and Fayette counties, increasing the total of Amazon solar projects in Ohio to 21.


“These projects are also helping create jobs, support local
businesses, and boost the local tax base, which are all part of Amazon’s broader commitment to become a more sustainable company,” said Nat Sahlstrom, head of energy, water and sustainability for Amazon Web Services in a statement.

I think it's interesting that the article cites a beneficial tax base. That's probably a lie. The solar farms are most likely exempt from property taxes and will be required to make PILOT payments that are pennies on the dollar.

Plus, construction is quick, and while they'll like locals to build roads, establish drainage and the like, they'll use specialized crews to erect the panels--not local yokels.

Then they'll sell renewable energy credits (RECs) and tell the community that they're selling energy from the solar farm to specific REC buyers. It's a scam. Get ready for higher electricity rates.

There is a solar "farm" in Asheville NC. I don't know what it really does but I do know its one of the ugliest things I have ever seen and takes up land space that could be used for other more attractive uses.
