That's the thing. Both sides have done equally horrible things to each other but neither side wants to admit to it or reconcile in any meaningful way, mainly those in positions of power and influence. Every new settlement built creates more opposition and retaliation from those being forced off of their property just like every mortar attack or bomber attack creates more retaliation from the IDF, and the cycle goes on and on.

and while it's facile to talk about a "cycle" and how everyone should make nice... one side has proven it can make peace. the other side (that's the pals) still has the destruction of israel as an objective in their charter.

You know for once Jillian and I share common ground, perhaps for different reasons but anyone who seriously wants to equate Israel with the Palestinians is either blind or brain dead. The Jews don't blow people up indiscriminately. I don't believe you will find any independent verification the Jews have massacred anyone. Even the OP states the massacre was not done by the Israelis directly but they were blamed anyway. Every time the Israelis defend themselves the world gets in a snit and demands they not only put their neck in the noose but buy the rope as well.

I have the utmost respect for the Israelis, they don't take $#@! off anyone.

Right after I graduated from high school in 1963 I was staying with a friend who's mother had rented a room in her house to a Jordanian college student. One of the circle of friends was a Jewish kid who never talked politics. The Jordanian hated him, tried to kill him once. The only reason for his actions? Mitchell was a Jew and that was enough for this "educated" Arab to want him dead.

No, the Israelis are not savages, they are a group of people who have been misrepresented since the beginning of time. What would you do if your neighbors were always firing guns into your home, killing your children, making statements they would destroy you completely.

I think Israel has shown great restraint for example in not blowing Iran off the map and saying $#@! the rest of the world, we are not going to be victims anymore
