    Memorial Day

    We should never forget those who have made the supreme sacrifice to insure our safety and freedom.

    The photo, taken by The New York Times’s Todd Heisler, whilehe was a staff photographer at The Rocky Mountain News in 2005. The night before the burial of her husband’s body, Katherine Cathey refused to leave the coffin, asking to sleep next to his body for the last time. The Marines made a bed for her.

    My dad was a vet of the Korean War. I miss him.
    He passed away 3 & 1/2 years ago.

    Even though I'm posting it on Memorial Day, I do remember this man everyday. We should remember SGT Talamantez who lost his life last July 10th in Al Amarah (COS Gary Owen) from indirect fire. My platoon and I lived next to him, and some of my soldiers were the ones who found his body. While we didn't know him personally his death affected us, and the entire base, greatly. He left behind a wife and 2 kids.
