It really depends on what you consider "suspicious". Is laying down a "suspicious" activity? Perhaps just laying down while brown.

Damn straight. Better safe than sorry.

I also think she look out of place. Now, if the interim Director of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (DIDE) say she look out of place, then she look out of place.

    Oumou Kanoute, the suspect.

    Dide or dinhe?

Yes they definitely should, for the reason given. I think the DIDE, Amy Hunter, should be reinstated.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- An employee who called police on a black Smith College student who was eating lunch in a common room on the western Massachusetts campus Tuesday has been placed on leave, school officials say. In a transcript of the call released by school officials Friday, the unidentified employee tells campus police dispatchers that the student seemed "out of place."

In a statement Friday, the college announced they have retained an outside law firm to "conduct a thorough, external investigation." The employee, who hasn't been identified, has been placed on leave pending the result, the school said.

The student, rising sophomore Oumou Kanoute, told CBS Boston she works at a summer program teaching chemistry to high school students for Smith's STEM program and was reading in the dining hall of the Tyler House dorm Tuesday.

"Next thing you know, I see the cop walk in with a Smith employee whom I've never seen before and the man said, 'We were wondering why you're here?"' Kanoute said.Oumou Kanoute speaks with CBS Boston on August 2, 2018 after a Smith College employee called police on her. CBS BOSTONKanoute tells the officer she works on campus and was eating lunch and relaxing.

"Oh you're just taking a break? You're with one of the summer programs?" the officer responds.

Campus police found "nothing suspicious" about Kanoute's presence, Amy Hunter, the school's interim director of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity, said in a statement. A police report wasn't filed because the officer determined the report to be unfounded, according to the school.

In the transcript of the police call, the employee who made the report tells a dispatcher, "I was just walking through here in the front foyer of [redacted] and we have a person sitting there laying down in the living room area over here. I didn't approach her or anything but he seems to be out of place … umm … I don't see anybody in the building at this point and I don't know what he's doing in there, just laying on the couch."

Clearly this is a case of ignorance or paranoia or both on the part of the employee, I dont see it as the employee just being vicious or outright racist, it would be kind of ridiculous to call the police merely because you hate the color of the persons skin. I think the employee is just a paranoid dumbass

Once many years ago I was still on the job, I was standing outside a rickels store they were home stores smaller in scope to the home depots that replaced them, I was waiting to get loaded with a group of about 12 or so others.

A large black male with sunglass's midnight black in complexion who looked hard and mean, he wallked into the mididle of us and people started to scatter you could actually feel the consternation. I saw he had a watch on, I said hey man what time is it, he looked at me and told me, I saw he had a USMC tshirt on I said you a marine, he smiled and said yes sir. He was a helluva nice guy, this was alot of years ago but it showed how things like this school employee can happen.

The color was not the issue, it was that she looked like a male and was sleeping on the couch, not just "setting foot" on the campus.

Are you an idiot or what?

How about lying down while male in an all female environment.

You have to realize the environment you are speaking to, nothing you say will alter the deep seated bias.
“Conscientiously believing that the proper condition of the negro is slavery, or a complete subjection to the white man, and entertaining the belief that the day is not distant when the old Union will be restored with slavery nationally declared to be the proper condition of all of African descent, and in view of the future harmony and progress of all the States of America, I have been induced to issue this address, so that there may be no misunderstanding in the future”

While I appreciate Dr. Who dropping her pretenses it is rather sad to watch her decline to the level of Cigar.
